Jun 8th
Counter offers. They’re really very flattering, aren’t they? You’ve handed in your notice and are ready to move on to bigger and better things, only to find that your current employer makes a new offer in a bid to keep hold of you and the skills you have to offer. Wow!
They’re not always ideal though, are they? After all, you’ve gone to all that trouble of updating your CV, tweaking and tailoring it for the jobs you’ve found and attending as many interviews as necessary for someone to offer you the right opportunity, and then your current employer throws a big, fat spanner in the works! Apr 27th
The world of the jobseeker has changed tremendously over the last ten years. It’s not that old job search methods have disappeared, just that the internet has brought about a whole new range of options when it comes to distributing your CV and promoting your achievements to potential employers; enabling you to expand your reach with ease.
As well as circling the ads in local or national newspapers and then making contact with desirable companies – of course, emailing your CV or resume these days, as opposed to printing and posting it – you’ll also create a social networking profile on sites like LinkedIn and Facebook – and tell your online connections about the projects you’re working on and the work you do. The job search process can be a stressful and prolonged one; full of twists and turns, hope and enthusiasm, disappointment and frustration. So, when it comes to interview preparation, where do you start?

Mar 5th
When you’ve been to the effort of updating and tailoring your CV or resume, have attended interviews, second interviews and, in many cases, a telephone interview before that, it’s not surprising that if your eventual resignation is met with a counter offer from your current employer, it can lead to confusion about the best course of action.
Here are six top tips for handling a counter offer: More >
Step into their shoes – tips for a successful job search
Feb 11th
It’s a typical approach to the job search: applicants keen to impress potential hiring managers craft a comprehensive CV or resume and embark on their hunt for the perfect role, ready to tell companies what they’ve done and what they want to do next. Not surprisingly, this process is often very candidate-centric (a CV or resume documents your education and employment history, after all).
What isn’t always considered, though, is that companies are less concerned about what your past achievements actually were and much more interested in how they will benefit them. Step into their shoes: unless you are able to explain how your accomplishments make you perfect for their company, you might not make it in. More >
Why cover letters matter
Feb 9th
Ahh, the cover letter… the trusted sidekick to the CV or resume.
They go together like Bonnie and Clyde; like peas and carrots; like bees and honey. You can’t have one without the other, so you can’t afford to spend hours creating the perfect CV or resume and then submitting it alongside a hastily written cover letter.
Cover letters matter because they introduce your CV; they encourage the recipient to give it the consideration you know it deserves; and they can be the reason you make it past the waste paper bin or the “delete” key and capture the attention of your target company. More >
